Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Addiction to alcohol is one of the most common substance abuse challenges facing Americans, with more than 15 million people struggling with alcohol abuse nationwide. At Midwest Recovery Centers, we help clients recover from alcohol addiction through a multi-step treatment process that includes individual and group therapy, 12 step integration, and other clinical support.

What is alcohol addiction?

Alcohol addiction, also called alcohol use disorder (AUD), occurs when a person can no longer control their drinking at a healthy level, often due to the appearance of withdrawal symptoms when alcohol is not present in the body.

Typical withdrawal symptoms from alcohol can include:

  • Depression or anxiety
  • Anger or confusion
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Headache
  • Nausea

At its worst, alcohol withdrawal symptoms can lead to delirium tremens, a condition where people can suffer from seizures or fever and require medical intervention.

Withdrawal is not the only danger associated with alcohol addiction. Each year, alcohol contributes to an increased rate of fatal traffic accidents, violence-related injuries, and preventable falls and other physical harm.

How we treat alcohol addiction?

Alcohol addiction is typically treated through a combination of physical detoxification (commonly known as “detox”) and psychological recovery through individual and group therapy alongside ongoing treatment and support.

At Midwest Recovery Centers, we use a unique multi-phasal recovery for alcohol abuse that incorporates:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Daily 12 step meetings
  • Physical fitness and recreation

We help clients through a series of treatment stages based on their recovery needs and goals, as well as their relevant history of addiction. Our goal is always to assist our clients overcoming alcohol addiction to develop responsible, safe and positive behaviors for life.

What is a multi-phasal recovery and how does it work?

Multi-phasal recovery refers to a unique treatment program offered at Midwest that leads clients through a series of customized therapies designed to move them towards a life free of alcohol dependence. Unlike other one-size-fits-all treatment programs, multi-phasal recovery ensures that our clients transition through two distinct phases of treatment and therapy that help them reach recovery safely and sustainably.

The two phases included within Midwest’s unique multi-phasal program are the first 90 days of recovery, known as Phase I, which include individual and group therapy alongside 12 step, wellness, and family programs, and Phase II, which can last up to six months afterwards and includes ongoing group therapy and 12 step recovery as clients transition back to everyday life.

By allowing clients to experience gradual “step-down”-style recovery, Midwest Recovery Centers ensures that clients have the skills, resources, and experiences necessary to overcome substance abuse as they re-enter their daily routines.
