Our recovery program uses a multi-step treatment approach, including individual and group therapy. We emphasize 12-step integration and offer various clinical support services. This holistic strategy addresses each client’s unique needs for a more effective recovery.

What is alcohol addiction?

Alcohol addiction, commonly known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), is a long-term condition in which individuals struggle to manage their drinking habits, negatively affecting their health and overall well-being. This inability to control consumption stems from the body developing an alcohol dependence, which results in withdrawal symptoms when intake is decreased or stopped altogether.

Common withdrawal symptoms from alcohol can include:

  • Depression or anxiety: Emotional symptoms may fluctuate in intensity, resulting in sensations of hopelessness or increased stress. Learn more about managing anxiety in recovery.
  • Anger or confusion: People might feel irritable or generally disoriented as their body adapts to life without alcohol.
  • Difficulty sleeping: Insomnia and irregular sleep patterns are common obstacles during withdrawal, often intensifying other symptoms. Learn about coping with insomnia.
  • Headache: The body may respond to the absence of alcohol with physical discomfort, including headaches.
  • Nausea: Nausea or vomiting is frequently experienced as the body struggles to manage withdrawal.

Severe alcohol withdrawal can lead to delirium tremens (DT), causing dangerous symptoms like seizures, hallucinations, tremors, fever, and severe disorientation. Immediate medical attention is crucial for safety and treatment.

Withdrawal isn’t the only danger of alcohol addiction. It’s linked to fatal traffic accidents, violence-related injuries, and preventable falls. These consequences illustrate the broader impact of alcohol on individuals and society.

How do we treat alcohol addiction?

Alcohol addiction impacts a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being; hence, treatment must take a holistic approach, beginning with detoxification. Detoxification is required to make the withdrawal safe and to assist in recovery. Psychological recovery after detoxification would facilitate the identification and treatment of the root causes of addiction.

“I remember getting sober and having a lot of fear about what may happen when I stop using and drinking. I remember feeling that I just might implode if I try to stop using drugs and alcohol without medical attention. Addiction feels like being stuck in a black hole, isolated away from all your loved ones and living a life of secrecy and shame from what you have to do to maintain the amount of drugs or alcohol in order to not start withdrawing. I knew with how bad I had gotten, that I was going to need a team of individuals whose sole job it was, to make sure I don’t drink or use again. When I got to my breaking point, I called Midwest Recovery Centers, and they were there for me. Ever since that moment, I have decided to dedicate my entire life to helping the next struggling person. I am proud to say that I work for MRC, and that I experienced every step of the long term program that you or your loved one can experience today! We are just one phone call away

What is a multi-phase recovery, and how does it work?

Multi-phasal recovery is a unique program by Midwest Recovery Centers that guides clients through structured, individualized therapies. Its main goal is to help clients achieve a life free from alcohol dependence. Unlike traditional treatment approaches, multi-phrasal recovery offers a tailored experience across three defined phases, ensuring recovery is safe and sustainable long-term.

Midwest’s multi-phase program includes Detox & Residential, Phase 1, and Phase 2. This model offers structured housing and support throughout the first year of recovery, which is essential during this transformative period.

The Detox & Residential phase lasts 30 days. Clients undergo medically supervised detoxification with 56 hours of clinical therapy weekly. This phase is critical for stabilizing clients physically and mentally for recovery stages.

After the Detox and residential phase, clients enter Phase 1, which lasts 60 days. They receive structured housing and participate in therapy and programs like 12-step meetings, wellness initiatives, and family support. This phase reinforces coping strategies and life skills for recovery.

Phase II is a significant transition lasting up to nine months. Clients reside in structured housing and participate in group therapy while integrating 12-step recovery support. This phase emphasizes continued support and community connection as clients return to independent living.

Midwest Recovery Centers work with a step-down recovery model, helping clients gain vital skills and resources to overcome substance abuse. This strategy facilitates a smoother reintegration into everyday life while enhancing resilience to relapse.
